Credit card debt is a common issue today and more and more
Americans are getting in debt as each day passes. With a high
number of card holders in debt, many are becoming aware of the
credit card trap and trying to avoid it.
Credit card companies are
suppose to be helping customers understand all the costs and
charges associated with a credit card offer, but some of the credit
companies are misleading consumers and making it difficult to
determine the true costs of many credit cards. There is a reason costs
and additional charges are put in the fine print, and that is hopefully
you won't read it. If you don't read it, you wont' no about it until it's too
late. Sad but true, credit card companies make a lot of money from
additional charges. When credit card shopping you need to take time
to read and understand all information on the card you are interested
in.
Another big thing credit card companies are misleading consumers
about is the interest rate. There are many different methods credit
companies can use to calculate the interest for credit cards and this
makes it extremely difficult for customers to determine which credit
card is cheapest. Customers don't realize if you have two credit cards
with the same interest rate and used in exactly the same way, one
could end up costing a whole lot more than the other because the
interest was calculated in a different way. Customers are led to believe
that the cheapest loan is the one with the lowest Apr. This enables
them to advertise what looks like a competitive rate to attract
customers, but now you know this isn't so. Customers need to
understand calculation methods before they can actually understand
which is the best rate.
The Office of Fair Trading is currently
investigating the fees charged by credit card companies. At some
point, there must be limits set to the amount of interest and charges
credit card companies can implement.
Until the credit card companies
use one standard way to charge interest, customers will be unsure of
the amount of interest charged. The fine print should be carefully read
and understood before applying a to a credit card. Good Luck!
